Perez wins IBF bantamweight belt and International Roundup
In action packed fight Yonnhy Perez scored a unanimous twelve round points decision over Joseph Agbeko to take the IBF bantamweight belt at the Treasure Island Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
Both fighters traded punches toe-toe throughout the fight with Perez (20-0; 14) scoring a knockdown in round eleven when Agbeko (27-2; 22) turned his back after a clash of heads and Perez hammered him to the canvas. The scores were 116-111 and 117-110 twice.
On the same card in a clash for the WBC interim lightweight title number one rated Antonio DeMarco (23-1-1; 17) stopped number two Jose Alfaro (23-5; 20) at 2:07 of the tenth round.
In Edmonton, Alberta, heavyweight Tye Fields improved his record to (43-2; 39) when he stopped Galen Brown in the third round at the Palace Banquet hall. Galen was taking punches and not answering back when the referee stepped in at 1:32 to wave the fight off.
In Las Vegas, in a WBC heavyweight title eliminator Ray Austin (28-4-4; 18) scored a fourth round technical knockout over DaVarryl Williamson (26-6; 22) at the Treasure Island Hotel & Casino. Williamson stunned Austin in the first round with some good right hands but Austin turned it around in the fourth to put Williamson down with an uppercut. He managed to beat the count but was in no condition to continue.
In Uncasville, Connecticut, heavyweight contender Joey Spina (25-1-2; 17) was held to a majority draw by former world champion Lou Del Valle (36-6-2; 22) at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Spina battled with 41-year-old Del Valle’s southpaw style.
Lightweight Hank Lundy (16-0-1; 10) knocked out Aldo Valtierra (25-12; 13) at 2:21 of the first round.
Olympian welterweight Sadam Ali (4-0; 2) outpointed Osvaldo Rivera (2-2, 1 KO) over four rounds.
In El Paso, Texas, middleweight Hector Camacho Jr. (50-3-1; 27) won a ten round split decision over former IBF champion Yory Boy Campas (92-15-1; 74) at the Don Haskins Convention Center. Camacho was deducted a point for a low blow in round three, a point for a punch after the bell in round four and a point for holding in round ten. The scores were 95-92, 96-91 Camacho and 95-92 Campas.
WBA number one super bantamweight Antonio Escalante (22-2; 14) scored an impressive second round knockout over Carlos Fulgencio (11-4-1; 7).
Welterweight Abel Perry (12-3; 4) stopped Bobby Joe Valdez (9-7-2; 4) in the fifth round.
Middleweight prospect David Medina (21-2; 10) scored an eight round unanimous decision over Miguel Hernandez (20-10; 10).
In Ratchaburi, Thailand, bantamweight Tantong Kiattaweesuk (13-0) won on a fourth round stoppage over Wan Jun Hui (5-9-1) to retain the IBF Pan Pacific title.
In Liverpool, England, in a gruelling affair Paul Smith (28-1; 15) won the British super middleweight title with a split decision over Scott Quigley (13-2; 6) at the Echo Arena.
James DeGale (4-0; 3) Beijing middleweight gold medallist stopped Ally Morrison (2-1-1) in the third round.
Another British Olympian Frankie Gavin (4-0; 4) stopped Steve Saville (19-7; 8) in the second round of a welterweight contest.
